Web and Walk... Just not too far

Mobile Broadband - now thats cool. The ability to surf the interweb at broadband speeds on your laptop from anywhere you can get a mobile phone signal is pretty damn awesome. I was sceptical at first as I'm sure a few people were, until i saw it for myself. A couple of people at work invested in it and from what Ive seen its spot on... but.... I dont think I know many people who will be using it on any exotic sundrenched beaches for a while. Now a lot of people are going to be thinking ' who wants the internet while their laid on a beach', well you dont know the people I do.

Now I like a game of poker - hell somedays all I do is talk, think and play but while on holiday in the place described as 'the promise of Eden - to those who can afford its charms' I think I might just have other stuff I want to do.... If however I did want to swing in a hammock with an IBM and a Del Boy Special (Piña Colada) I might just be tempted to utilize a nice shiny Web and Walk modem then I too could have the privilege of paying 0.73 pence per kb of lovely data I transfer. Bargain! - or is it....

So the scene is set - Sun, Hammock, Laptop, Piña Colada, Poker. Cool - You feel like a god.... 'Ill just have a quick check of my email.... Couple of halfway funny pictures from someone at work and some SPAM. I know Ill send the picture of me in the hammock thats on the digital camera to the office - really brighten my workmates day. A few emails and a couple of single table tournaments later and its time for a dip to cool off.

Playing online poker in paradise - priceless
Using 3mb of data transfer - £22.43

Now dont get me wrong I like playing poker but at around £45 an hour I think I might just be tempted to go old school and invest £3 in a pack of cards and play the locals for shells! Even downloading that tiny little Installer for your Poker Room of choice is costing you a lovely £30 and thats without your antivirus updates (gotta be safe) and god forbid update tuesday! Mobile Internet - its the future! Just dont plan on going too far....

Whos' next to act....?

Ive had a few 'unique' play orders on bluesquare since my first post but this is my first 6 seater sit and go image. I contacted bluesquare and as yet they haven't got back to me about it. It only happens in minitable mode but as i play 2 games at a time its getting pretty annoying.

As for the bluesquare challenge, currently sitting at $3.73.

Challenge Update

posted under , , , by The Hutch
Well its day 7 and its all good - current bankroll is (drum roll please) $2.25. Ive played a couple of freebies for a warm up tonight and then a 10 cents buyin and won that so its all good.

I made my mind up at the begining of the 'challenge' to play as tight as possible and to try to cash in every game I play - didn't quite work out that way to begin with and I am guilty of the odd stupid call and all in for fun. Its got to be said though that playing even a 10cents game I'm determined that nobodys having my chips without a fight.

Rant.open (Apparently I do this now and again...)

Ive had a couple of emails from people correnting me on punctuation and spelling - I'd like to thank them for their advice and may i retort: who gives a monkeys? Sorry but for the past 6-7 years Ive been developing ASP websites and when I started ' and " were the bain of my life. I hated them. If you dont like it feel free to scoff and mock but dont bother emailing me - i dont really care. However if you have nothing better to do than surf the internet and spot spelling and grammar mistakes may I suggest that you start here.

The webofpoker.co.uk challenge!

A while ago Wolfy mentioned some games he had been playing on Bluesquare Poker. Free Sit and Go games with 10 cents of prize money paid to the top 3.

1st: 5 cents
2nd: 3 cents
3rd: 2 cents

Free money? With 25 games a day your allowed to play for free and low stake games to buy into once you have won your first 12 cents this had to be worth a look and a bit of a dabble.

Ive been playing for cash for a while and Ive had some good games but the challenge of starting from scratch and seeing how far I can go sounds like a bit of a laugh. I knew the 'All in first hand' mob would make a regular apperance and there would be 'fish' a plenty from the early days of the 'Virgin freerolls' - where I essentially began to learn poker (with a lot of guidance from Wolfy and Sharky)

So it began.....

Now that was 5 nights ago - currently a massive $1.71 in the kitty but a lot has been learnt. Ive experimented with my playing style and for my shame Ive even pushed all in on the first hand. So Ive deceided to document the journey in my blog - who knows I may even make a bit of cash!

Halloween Chavs?

posted under , by The Hutch
Well Ive seen it all now a 'posse' of tracksuit wearing fully fledged chavs trick or treating. All in their late teens knocking on doors trying to scare sweets from old ladies with only the power of their socks.

Now dont get me wrong I remember having loads of fun on halloween and my kids love it but TRACKSUITS? Surely minimum effort of a mask is not too much to expect even from the marginally educated. The power of the diamante bling hanging from them wasn't enough to scare a bag of sweets out of me and when prompted for a 'trick' the blankness of their faces astounded me. I didnt expect a rabbit out of a hat but when they tried to show me videos on their phone i couldnt control my excitement. Sorry lads but my wifes scarier

Well heres hoping next year they get a little inspiration - even if it is a sheet with a hole cut in it!

iPod Shaped Ears?

posted under , , , , by The Hutch
Ive been a user of in the ear headphones for about 13 years - all different sizes and styles and never really had any problems with them falling out........ until now.

Ive had my Nano for about 12 months and without fail it has played the soundtrack for my life everyday and become my best friend. However times change - and theres a new kid on the block - my Sony Ericsson W580i (bought because my lovely wife is getting pretty pissed at me not hearing my phone because of the iPod). Now the beautiflly styled headphones that were supplied with the phone were popped straight in and away I went to work with gleaming phone in pocket preparing to welcome in the revolution Sony was about to bring me!

5 minutes up the road and silence - having battled at every step and repeatedly pushing them back into my ears said earphones had been relegated to pocket pending further investigation. Now I have tried 4 differing styles to no avail - they just will not stay in! So out comes Mr Nano and BINGO - secure fitting even when scampering out the way of the impending doom of a 10 ton lorry while crossing the road.

So there you have it - my ears are iPod shaped.......
